The key mandate of this department is planning and developing water supplies and sewerage services, providing WSS services and guiding the development of technical and managerial capacity for the sector. With redefined roles under Water Act 2002 the function of planning water supplies and sewerage provision is now designated to the Water Service Boards while that of direct service provision is relinquished to water services providers.
